Rotary Club of Chennai Neithal provides pink autos for downtrodden women in Chennai

Rotary Club of Chennai Neithal, is part of Rotary International District 3232 (Chennai) is working on projects empowering women and providing vocational training to women, making them self-employed. Pink Auto is a dream project of Rotary International District 3232, i.e. Chennai under the leadership of Rotary District Immediate Past Governor Rtn.G.Chandramohan and execution by Rtn.Shanthi Selvam, Director Community Service Development.
Pink Auto project is a dream project launched in the Rotary District 3232 Assembly held on 19th May, 2019 by Immediate Past District Governor (Rotary International District 3232 – Chennai) Rtn.G. Chandramohan.
The First model of Pink Auto was showcased during the Rotary District Assembly which was held at Sri Ramachandra Medical College (SRMC), Porur, Chennai.
The program is for empowerment of downtrodden women, these autos will be driven by women.
Under this project, Rotary Club of Chennai Neithal – Pink Auto (Phase 1) with the support of State Bank of India and Ganga Motors has handed over Eight Autorickshaws to the women from various backgrounds such as widows, single parent and from financially poor backgrounds
This is first of its kind of initiative providing mass driving class to 200 women and provide them with Autorickshaws. Rotary’s Pink Auto initiative not only helps women earn Rs.1000 to Rs.1500 per day and making them self-sustained to support family and children.
The event was attended by Rtn.Aruna Padmanabhan (President), Rtn.Girish Easwaran (Secretary) Rotary Club of Chennai Neithal along with other members of the club, State Bank of India employees and Ganga Motors employees, a few family members of beneficiaries (women) were present for this event.
President Rtn.Aruna Padamanbhan said “The overall cost of this project is Rs.3 Crores. The next phase of Pink Auto distribution is going to be held in February 2021.”
